The Door Hanging!

The door hanging of paddy was finally hung in her balcony. It was in the hall for a few days but wasn’t much pleasing.

She often felt lonely but anxious of meeting new people and rarely left her room.

Staring out of the window was her favourite leisure activity while she wondered what the use of that hanging was? For looks, it wasn’t charming!

One day, a little bird started pulling paddy grains out of the hanging.

Now the girl eagerly waits for her every day and the bird started coming with other birds.

There was a curious relationship between the bird and the girl as they spent some minutes glaring into each other.

And the paddy hanging? Well, the purpose has been served.

The paddy hangings, as mentioned in the story, are a popular tradition in some parts of India, largely in the state of Chhattisgarh, also known as the rice bowl of India. These hand knitted door hangings made of ripe paddy, are considered to bring in prosperity, and are usually sold during the festival of Diwali. There’s a belief that if a bird eats these paddy seeds, goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, will bless their home.
