Me, Myself in 2022

Young women these days,
some young women, that is
vehemently espouse feminism,
gender empowerment
and talk of distancing extended family,
all in one breath-
or a tweet or FB post or on Insta.
Truth. Reality. Reckoning.
The ‘Me’ matters.
‘My’ needs, including spa-time.
I read on, anxious about their needs,
their feelings of depression,
repression, anger and counselling sessions.
The Mantra of today –
“Exile those who caused you grief”
and Play your Life the Way You Want.
No one else matters.

No one else matters…
But what probably matters is
That they want everyone to feel that they matter
And never mind if that “me” is the narcissistic I, me, myself…
where they don’t really matter to the ones who really matter!
