HouseHelp

All have been taught
And taught well I might add
To respect elders
But being older gives you the right to disrespect?
I didn’t know that was a thing.

Why give them gifts and
Click pictures for a day
Just to show them in school or social media
When all you call them is ‘servants’?

Servant is still too respectful
“Kaam waali bai” is what you say
Why?
Does it hurt to say ‘househelp’?

Although, it wasn’t them who chose to do this
It ain’t like they dreamed to rub your house floors
Or clean your metal doors.

Taught in school is
Don’t say ‘copy’, it’s a notebook
Why not add another bullet point
Don’t say servant, it’s your ‘househelp’.

I’m glad that you wrote on this topic . Dignity of labour and respect for all professions is a mindset that we all need to have or change to! Happy that you are so sensitive to these aspects of life and feel strongly to write about them

    1. Dear Jethro, I am really happy that you chose this topic. Very well penned. Keep it up young boy. 👏

Well written Andre and we should respect the house help and support available to us and give them the respect that is owed to them. Elated with your thoughts and ideology and Keep up the great work !!!!

Excellent effort Jethro. This is something each one of us must realise ourselves and teach our children as well. Everyone is just doing their job and no one should be looked down upon

Very sensitive portrayal … It is said how we are losing values…
    A help which helps us

Reforms start as droplets of water, which makes an ocean sooner.. Naming as HouseHelp is a Reform, but I wish a Change, radical in that.. where a society, in which we help ourselves without having to have a paid maid isn’t it? Man engaging man to do his work is a mean thing in any society.
Reforms… but, at least, droplets give a temporary reprieve of emotional pressures of our bubble like small life. I wish the Change happened tomorrow if not today…
The poem exposes the venal hypocrisy of the insensitive elite.. good.
    All the best Jethro

  9. Absolutely. Let’s rethink few unnoticed yet important aspects of our behaviour as well. Reminders are always good!

Yes Jethro, we need to examine our values and changing the way we designate a function is the start of the process… good insight
