Oblivious

A normal day- repeating tasks, motions void of emotions. You have to do what you need to, or told.

I hurried out of the elevator and aimed straight at my cabin. I could see few people in the hallway. No time for pleasantries. Work on CIO presentation beckoned.

The deck had come out well. Only scripts needed few snips. “if I hurry, I can close it on time”, just as I thought; “When are you not in a hurry?”, rang in my head. My wife’s arsenal of such stingers and the stealth is deadly.

As I jumped right back into my work, phone buzzed. “Damn waste of time”; but it’s boss. “Meet me at my office?” Courtesy is extinct.

The whole office seemed packed into the shitty large office. I entered profusely sweating, “Another screw up?”.

“Happy 20th Service Anniversary!”. Chorus. Smiles.

“Phew!”, two decades!

Or, is it remorse…?
