Absence by the Sea

Absence is not only from lack of presence,
But manifests mentally too as a subsequence.
Bitterly gnarling through your feelings,
A towering debacle before conceding.

Unique sounds, the ears begin to hear.
Loud and soft they vaguely appear.
Disquiet, a sense of voices in a passing phase,
Make the eyes astray with the dancing waves.

Myriad memories flash before the eyes.
Nostalgic voices too and familiar cries…
As a whiff of salinity hits the nostrils,
Gushing tears reminds you of familiar encounters.

A cold emptiness brush the skin.
Now, all five senses stand shaken.
The sensual sea, that vivid smell
Could it be the scent of a person you know well?

But then…why were you left behind?
Perhaps it’s a reason you will never find.
The constant flow of waters by the reef
Tell us, ‘Acceptance will be your only relief’.
