A Bheekara Tale!

It was a cold windy night. Kavi had just managed to put Ela to sleep after quite some effort and we were about to dive into our daily dose of reading. Suddenly my phone rang, stabbing a dagger through the carefully constructed silence. It was loud enough for Ela to rise and shine. Kavi threw me the usual how-many-times-have-I-told-you look. It was Balu at the other end. Bheekaran had committed suicide!

Bheekaran!!! Of all people!! He was the toughest man alive or so he had made all of us believe. Bheekaran, who had enthralled us all with his impossible yet fascinating adventures. The very same Bheekaran who had us convinced that only laziness could save the world!

The only thing he had left for the world was a note, which said 10 on 10. Typical Bheekaran! Hopefully, he found perfection!

Bheekara / Bheekaran in Malayalam, as used in the story, literally translates to “The Terror”. However, like in the story, it is often used colloquially, in jest, to refer to someone who boasts a lot.
