True Freedom
- a Poem
- by Popsie Ebenezer
We celebrate freedom but are all really free?
Let’s ask ourselves this question, earnestly
The poor woman who becomes someone’s wife
Who for dowry, ends up losing her life?
The lady who sorts the trash for us
Who’s ostracized then for what she does?
The penniless farmer who toils so hard
Yet ends his life in his own yard?
The young girl raised to make choices of her own
Who’s then raped, killed & mercilessly thrown?
The youth who grows up with dreams in his eyes
For parents, who’s forced to give it up in a trice?
The aged grandparent who longs for love
But who’s illtreated & sent soon to his home above?
Our freedom shouldn’t hamper the freedom of the other.
Be it a stranger, child, father or mother
True freedom for sure should have set boundaries
Boundaries of basic humanity, to live in peace
