Micky’s Freedom
- a Short Story
- by Suman Mukherjee
I stared at her beating heart and shining black eyes witnessing her struggle to set herself free. She was a frequent visitor for the last few days successfully avoiding the cage which sat neatly at the corner of my room. But today, either due to greed or hunger she was trapped. The wheat balls and the peanuts were a bit too much for her to resist.
I fell in love with this nature’s work of art. Micky Mouse was beautiful. She occasionally looked up at me as if pleading for her release. I felt sad, not because she was imprisoned but for the simple reason that I had to release her soon.
I took the cage outside and opened the door of freedom for her. Micky gleefully came out and ran freely towards the road.
She however could not avoid the car which sped across while seeking her freedom!
