Self-Love
- a Poem
- by Jethro André Jolliffe
You are not unworthy
You are not small
You are capable
You have come this far.
Just be strong,
Don’t listen to the ‘they’
‘they’ don’t want to see you grow
‘they’ will hold you back
‘they’ don’t want to see you do
Something that they could never do.
The only way to overcome
Is to love the imperfections in you
Accept not being perfect,
Accept being you,
Accept being different.
Nothing in life is perfect
Everything has its faults
But when you love someone
You don’t see the faults in them
You find them perfect.
Likewise, start loving yourself.
And accept life as it is.
Butterflies can’t see the colour of their wings
But us humans can see how beautiful they are
Likewise, you may not think you are good enough
But others who love you can see how amazing you truly are.

Beautiful Jethro…yes loving oneself is the hardest thing to do.
Never let someone else define you.
When my students were about to enter the examination hall, I use to make them say this magic mantra-
“I am the best!”
It worked for them….. taking away all the negativity.
Your poem though highlighting negativeness of others projects a very strong positive communication for each individual self!
Thank you! For giving hope and forgiveness to all of us!!
