Divorce
- a Short Story
- by Suman Mukherjee
‘Cabin crew, please be seated, ready for take- off.’ The pilot announced as the passengers tried to settle down for this long- haul flight. The pilot’s six-year-old son, Ankur was also amongst the passengers.
Captain Satish Shukla had resumed his duties after his divorce and watched the rising sun from his cockpit window knowing well that the sun would never shine in his heart again. He knew his relationship with his wife was always flawed perfection. He also knew that his words were daggers, his mind now fragile, ravaged by an inner hurricane.
Neha, the service manager entered the cockpit.
‘Sir, breakfast is ready.’ she remarked with a smile.
‘Only a glass of orange juice for me.’
‘Sure, Sir.’ She smiled and then left.
As Neha came out of the cockpit, she saw Ankur standing near the washroom.
‘Mummy, I need a glass of orange juice.’ he demanded.
