Contagious

It was extremely hot and humid. A few hundred meters from the hospital, I saw an incredibly old, lone lady, slowly limping towards the end of the never-ending queue. Hundreds of people had lined up for the vaccination against the new virus. All above 45. All eyes were curiously following her. Each pair expressing their inner thoughts, anxiety to compassion.

The queue was increasing faster than her pace. Her distance to the end of the queue was expanding. As I was wondering what I could do to help her, a security guard held her arm and guided her towards the gate. She smiled at him. This was the first time ever; I had seen such a long queue of smiles. And then I realized that I was smiling too.

My attention was drawn to birds chirping, as the branches above danced in the unusually cool breeze.
