Independent Happiness
- a Poem

I won’t ever be able
to make you happy
Even if I try my best
you are not happy
You just sit back expecting
me to do the world for you
Never said a word
to praise my efforts
When I try and work hard
you turn a blind eye
When you don’t get what
you expect, you sulk
Neither should I run
behind your happiness
Nor should you relate
your happiness with mine
I was satisfied with myself
but you couldn’t ever be
And then, those words echo
deep in my mind and it hurts
Just like a sad song
I replay, pause and play
But I just can’t get enough
out of what you said
I don’t want to do anything
for anyone else’s happiness
I’ll make my happiness
independent and you make yours
