Jaws of Death
- a Short Story
- by KR Lakshmi
The bus screeched to an abrupt halt in the midst of a forest.
These were the deep jungles of Naxal infested Chhattisgarh. The passengers got a rude jolt from their deep slumber. It was 2:30 am.
Within a few minutes, a group of gun-wielding men appeared from nowhere.
Surrounding the bus, they made the passengers come down and sit in a circle. Those with families were let off. They escaped under the cover of darkness.
Three people were taken hostage, blindfolded and led miles into the deep forest.
After 2, 3 days of captivity, two of them were left at an undisclosed spot. They were directed to walk ahead, never to look back. It was the narrowest escape from the jaws of death. They ran for their lives.
The fate of the third person!! His body laid in unknown terrain in cold blood.
His fault- he was a cop!!
