Now that we are old,
we can hold hands in comfort
and not worry about people perceiving it as sexual.
Now that we are on our death bed,
we can spend much time together
and not be frowned upon.
Now that we are dying,
they can see us as who we are
and not as disgrace.
Now that we have nothing to gain,
we can speak from our hearts
and not from our mouths.
Now that our energy is exhausted,
we can sit still, and smile
and let things be.
Now that the world doesn’t revolve around us,
we can let go of our craving for attention.
Now that we are almost deaf,
we can finally listen to our own inner voice.
Now that we understand our impermanence,
we can choose out of compassion,
not out of fear.
Now that death is here,
we can finally live.
